To me, this novel is about two people who are "not normal" finding their soulmate in each other and loving each other so much they're willing to stand together even in the face of death. There's no explicit sex in this novel but I genuinely don't think it needs it because the things they indulge each other with are so sensual and private that those scenes give off a feeling as if those indulgences were their versions of sex/pleasure.
